Re: The Yes Thread

My recommendation would of been to start off with The Yes Album and go in sequence to Tormato and then to thier debut and Time And A Word. Drama and Yesshows next followed by 90125 and Big Generator. As far as Yes in the '90's is concerned there is only four albums I'd recommend that you listen to: Keys To Ascension 1&2(live and studio tracks), Keystudio(compilation of studio tracks from Keys To Ascensions; if you don't have both Keys) and Magnification(with a symphony orchestra).

Either way it doesn't matter because you're getting introduced to one of the greatest prog bands of all time IMO. Enjoy.

I think the above is very sound advice ..I personally don't care for 90125 and Big Generator but of course they are worthy of a listen to determine for yourself whether or not they are to your liking.

I don't have a problem with Downes touring with the band. I read a few comments RC and I knew that both Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson had health issues, whether that has entered in to the line-up Yes has now I am not sure. Did Oliver Wakeman leave on his own, or due to a band decision?

I wouldn't have a clue to be honest, neither party has released a statement about it. Wakeman jr. is still being listed as a member on their official site, though.

Re: The Yes Thread

I'm not sure if Wakeman jr. is still in the fold or not. Downes is producing the album which I'm OK with and didn't mind his work on Drama but couldn't stand the project The Buggles with him and Trevor Horn, a new wave/synth pop/techno sound that was unbearable to listen to.

It will be interesting to see how Canadian David Benoit vocals compare to Jon Anderson's as he is pretty much identical. He played with the symphonic/neo-prog band Mystery that released a couple a very good albums.

I think I smell another prog-pop endeavor from Yes. I hope I'm wrong.

^^I'll give the new album a fair listen, but as many other fans have already stated it really won't feel the same without Jon Anderson, no matter how good Benoit does at the microphone.

Agree with that, there are some bands you just can't seperate them from the sound the vocalist makes, like Geddy with Rush, or Jagger with the Stones, and Jon Anderson has such a unique voice, I don't see anyway on earth this can sound like anything else but some random band singing Yes songs, so I will have to try and put anything relating to Anderson out of my head, doesn't mean though that it can't still be a good record in its own right, hope it is. Never really got into Yes at first when all my friends at school were raving about Fragile and Close to the Edge, but then I suddenly discovered it was the coolest thing on earth to walk around with a couple of Roger Dean album covers tucked under your arm, and even better to plaster Roger Dean posters all over your bedroom door and wall, so I did that first, and then I began listening to the actual records, and discovered I quite liked them!!

Hey guys, I didn't say that Benoit is going replace Anderson, however, I bet ya that most people couldn't tell the difference between the two if they were not told who was who. They even look a like, kinda.
