Anyone want to give us your Top 10 classical composers?

Classical music is a major factor in the everyday life of our family, as my wife is a professional musician, so it very much enriches our lives.

Choosing 10 favourite composers is no easier than choosing 10 favourite bands, but I would say for me it would have to be, in no particular order, J S Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Schubert, Shostakovich, Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Mahler, and Respighi.

Here’s a clip of possibly my own favourite piece from each of my Top 10 favourite composers, you don't have to do this, probably take like an hour to just play all 10 of these clips, so just say who your Top 10 are if you like. There's not much to add to these clips really, just let the music speak for itself, though if you do get time especially check out that youth orchestra from Venezuela playing Shostakovich - these gifted kids are just an incredible shining beacon of hope in a region that is plagued by corruption, poverty, and crime, I think the Vaughan Williams is about as perfect as music ever gets, and also the video Disney put together for ‘Fantasia 2000’ for this Respighi piece, which to me visually and musically almost beggars belief as it reaches its incredible climax, hypnotic!

Nice list! Yes, I have to agree with those kids in Venezuela... they sound amazing and Dudamel really has done wonders with them.
I see you like the Pines of Rome - I don't know what recordings you have, but to me the ultimate recording is with Fritz Reiner conducting the Chicago Symphony. The brass is absolutely phenomenal!!! A young Bud Herseth shines through in a glorious trumpet section. When I listened to this recording I heard things I've never heard before. Definitely my favorite version! Check it out if you get the chance:

It also has a wonderful rendition of DeBussy's La Mer on it. :grinthumb

Now time to think about my list! :D

I think I have over 150 CD's of his now, some are different versions of symphonies etc. but he will always be my favorite.

My favorite as well LG. It's hard to surpass such greatness. Beethoven is in league with great minds like DaVinci and Newton... untouchable human excellency.

That's quite a formidable Beethoven collection you have! I would love to see what kind of goodies you have in there ;)
