Re: Deep Purple

The double BBC live in concert is one of my faves from Purple, "Wring That Neck" super long version is a real winner in my house.

Re: Deep Purple

I think even the original albums like The Shades of Deep Purple and The Book of Taliesyn dont get the credit they should.

Nope, they don't. Too bad really. Purple is one of those bands I've never heard a bad record from and that includes anything with Evans or Joe Lynn Turner on vox.

In Concert is one of my favorites, too, Sweaty! I originally bought the double album of that release and played the heck out of it, too. Although the production may not be on the same or similar levels of MiJ, In Concert is full of terrific performances, imo!

^^ Classic Sweat.

George Best chilling in the audience.:grinthumb

^^It certainly is and I greatly agree! Mandrake Root is a long time fave earlier DP classic, and a song that I feel Ian Gillan's singing lifted to an amazing level, imo! I've listened to the original DP version for many years, but the live version with Ian Gillan on vocals is absolutely awesome! :cheers2

I agree Rocker440 .. I remember watching an interview with Ritchie and they asked why he chose Gillan .. Ritchie said he had just seen Led Zeppelin and realised that to compete; Deep Purple needed stronger vocals .. Gillan was the perfect choice IMO. :cheers2
