I am a huge fan of Slip of the Tongue even though it was post-Sykes when Coverdale went insane and fired his whole band (WTF?), but nothing was better than their "Oh my GOD that is loud!" 1987 eponymous release... Straight for the Heart, Still of the Night, Don't Turn Away, Bad Boys, Children of the Night are the heaviest songs on that rocker showcasing Coverdale/Sykes' finest compositional work of all time. And I really can't get over the meaty drums Dunbar laid down for that tape. My brother and I work out that cassette when we bought it and were floored when we watched Still of the Night performed for the MTV Music Awards. Goodness, you will never see anything that good on MTV ever again. Outside of the late, great RJD, David Coverdale has some of the finest metal vocals I've ever heard... Such range, throaty, raspy, low, high--he did it ALL.
Coverdale didn't go insane - Sykes was appropriately fired or don't you know the story?
Is "the story" you are referring to the Coverdale side of the story or the Sykes side of the story? I'm sure both of them have their own version.
Besides Coverdale didn't go through band members like one-ply toilet paper because he was a nice guy to work for.
It's John Kalodner's story who was A&R man for Whitesnake at the time.
Well that is good. Sorry to be such a pain in the neck about the topic.
However, as you know, it isn't really wise to assume that an individual band member is always telling the truth about those sort of things. That's why I asked you that question.
All one needs to do is ask Gene Simmons a question about Kiss and then ask either Peter Criss or Ace Frehley the same question an hour later.
Same thing with Eddie Van Halen and either David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar.
