I don't know how much you guys know, or even care about sound quality of headphones, but hell, I'm talking about it anyways. :grinthumb

So, here's some optional things to bring up in your responses:

1. Headphones or Earbuds?
2. Favorite Brand?
3. Which brand/model of headphones does the best job at noise cancelling?

I am at the point right now, where all the iPods I've owned end up getting stolen at some point after ownership. :mad:mad

So I'm walking around school with a giant, baby blue Sony Walkman CD Player, and use whatever headphones/earbuds I can find.

But, I used to own a pair of Skullcandy headphones...they got a little bit cut at the wires which I repaired with electrical tape, and my cat's didn't help much at all. :heheh:

Anyways, those headphones were really awesome from what I remember, and they also folded up easily when you needed them to. The sound quality was pretty great, and I loved them so much. But then, somehow, I lost them and haven't found them since. I can hopefully find them again, if my mom didn't already throw them away...god I hope not. Those were pretty awesome.

Earbuds wise, as cheesy and lame as it may sound, I think the best earbuds sound wise come from none other than Apple, the ones you get when you get an iPod & co...

I don't use earbuds or headphones anymore, my brother bought a really nice pair of full range earbuds that he swears by, I can't remember the brand though...I'll ask him next time he's here.

I always liked Sennheiser open air headphones, they were light had really good sound and you could wear them for a long time without getting fatigued at all.

I don't like sealed headphones of any kind, even though they are the best for intimate listening.

I would offer some advice to all the i-pod owners out there, be careful how long and how loud you enjoy your i-pod, you only get One set of ears and they do suffer damage when exposed to prolonged sound of any kind. If you ever get a "ringing" sound in your ears, that is the danger sign, don't play any music or use loud machinery when that happens. If it persists then see your doctor, suffering permanent hearing loss for anyone especially music fans is a terrible fate.

Don't mean to wander off topic but for young people it is important to take care of your hearing so you can enjoy music your whole life.:mn:

I completely 100% agree, I hardly listen to my music through earbuds at loud volume anymore...partially because of that, partially also because I don't want to be rude when I'm actually talking with friends, and blow them off, having to take my earbuds out every time they say something, and make them repeat it. That's just bogus.

But mostly, I listen to music off my laptop through speakers, or play records, cds, tapes, AUX, and the radio through the extremely versatile stereo in my room.

Whats makes the most logical approach is to get a professional hearing test.. that way you know what you should be listening to and whats not important or cant change.

you'll want a frequency response of 20 hertz -14/16 kilohertz

I picked up a pair of Philips SHS390 headphones at wally world under 10$ and I used them all the time running with my iPod while jamming (and I jam quite loud).. it takes the punishment and what I like it sits behind the head instead of over.... BUT.. youll have to re-enforce the cord to the plug... itll short out.

try them out... at worst your out 10$..

and I also agree with Lord Grendel on the "Pete Townshend syndrome" But once you figure out the ceiling or threshold for you and there's one.. the tester will tell you... at least for your age.. and stay enough below it... you should be fine.

I thought I was suffering for the "Pete Townshend syndrome" tho it never alway rang except after jamming ... but then again I could hear a phone ringing from, outside in a house from 30 feet away in a wind... and the last time I was tested (around 10 years ago..) the tester looked a bit shocked that I could hear such high frequencies at my age at that time... "How old are you?" I told her 37.. yeah she was shocked... But I never have anything that loud playing in my ears now... But I can still hear the lack of highs from time to time when Im working on music, not me but from the file.

I use medium-priced Sony and Coby headphones. I hate earbuds.

My preference would be to use the really expensive, higher quality headphones that I used to use when I was doing radio. The difference in quality between those and the cheap pieces of shit headphones you buy in Walmart or a drug store is startling.

However, I just don't dig the idea of paying that much money for headphones, especially when my lesser quality headphones either get broken or "borrowed" (by friends or family) often enough that I am regularly replacing them.

I'm loving my AKG K240s. Pretty awesome sound replication and quite comfy, too. For nightly listening or for closer listening they are pretty sweet. Other than that I use speakers mostly.
