I agree with LXA on this .. I hate Robert Plant's voice but then again I'm not a fan of Led Zeppelin ...

How about Plant's solo work? Big Log was an epic song, IMO

There were a lot of bands I loved in which the lead singer was the weakest link. David Johansen of the NY Dolls and Handsome Dick Manitoba from the Dictators come immediately to mind. That doesn't mean I'd want a different singer though since both of them could cover up their defecencies by being excellent performers and showmen.

I was never wild about Robert Plant or Ronnie James Dio's vocals either. Same for Geddy Lee. I guess I've gotten used to them over the years but it put me off from being big fans of their bands.

A band isn't a band without their singer, I can't think of any it would ruin the vibe of the band.

Quote this to sum up my thoughts....well I'll expand a little. :heheh: I can't get offended if my bands are put in this thread because it comes from non-fans. A lot of bands don't have good singers by technical standards but often they are perfect because the songwriting and mythos of the band is written around the singers style and it's especially inseparable when the singer is also the songwriter. For example, Celine Dion is by technical standards a talented singer but would you want her anywhere near your rock band of choice because the singer is limited in range, octaves, etc. I'll take an imperfect vocal from a great songwriter anytime and it'll be music to my ears! :D

Dare I say it...

..... The Rolling Stones

I can't stand Mick Jagger's voice.

I love Gimme Shelter and wind Sox up to the hilt by saying this could have been such a good track if sung by a different vocalist :^P

Now I'm in for it from you lot and hubby when he reads this... :peek

It is fascinating how some vocalists are pure honey to some people's ears and to others they sound off key and sour. I know each person hears sounds differently. I honestly believe sometimes that I am tone deaf :D
