Who's got the blues?

SRV is my absolute favorite blues artist. Too bad he still isn't around.

I miss SRV as well...but Albert King...and Howlin` Wolf...I could go on and on....just one time...listen to Albert King`s version of ..."The Very Thought of You"...if you`ve ever been in love...this song`ll make you weep....I can`t express enough how the blues just reaches into me and moves me. I`ll miss BB King when he`s done...like I`ve missed so many others. Sheesh I have some Jimi doin` blues...there are so many. I do love r & r...and rockabilly, and so many genres...but it all comes back to the blues for me...anyone here ever heard of Catfish Hodge? Me and my hon...well...sweet for us.

I love the blues, and should be as a blues singer. I rather make blues then listen to it thought, since lately I listen more to classic rock then anything. But singing the blues is just so great! For me blues is the only genre where I can really express my emotion in to the fullest. And every genre derived from blues gives me a bit of that feeling as well. But Blues is rootmusic for me, its a tradition about personal expression.

I know it's trendy to site SRV but if it wasn't for him I'd have been listening to bunk hair metal in my teens in the mid 80's. He totally got me going in a new direction as far as what I listened to as well as my guitar playing. Then I went back and discovered the past greats like Buddy Guy, Albert Collins, Freddie King, Luther Allison etc. It also saved me a bunch of dough going to concerts. My peers would spend $30 on a frickin' Poison show and I could see someone like Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown for ten bucks. I liked going against the grain. Taking a girl to a pop metal show in the mid 80's was par for the course, take her to a blues show in a seedy bar and you've introduced her to something new. In 1986 I saw a show in Miami with Robert Cray, Albert King and B.B. King. That's as bluesy as it gets!!

My two favorite guitarists of all kinds of music are both blues guitarists. Roy Buchanan (who I never had a chance to see live), and Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown. I saw Savoy Brown 3 times in Austin Tx in the mid 70's, and I never saw anyone play live that I enjoyed as much as Kim Simmonds. And I have seen many, like Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana, etc. This, of course is my own personal opinion. There are many excellent gutarists.

they're on that level between real blues and rock music

The best blues guitarist IMHO is without a doubt

Lightning Hopkins

he is blues arpeggio at its best .

and that film of Hendrix chilled out on a sofa playing
"I hear my train a coming" on an acoustic is mind blowing
