probably one of the best albums of the 80's

Sorry to point it out but van halen's 1984 was actually released in 1983 without a doubt my choice would have to be twisted sister -stay hungry

Have to agree to a point with you on Purple Rain Martin- It is a great album. I still play it in it's entirety from time to time. And I still pick up something new from it.

My choice, however, would be the Police Synchronicity (or was it released in 1983?)

Yes - and he released another one in 1994. "Street Talk" is a classic in the AOR genre...and a major reason for the tensions building to a critical level within Journey during the mid-80s. Perry decided to record a solo album partly to get back at Neal Schon who had been working with Sammy Hagar and Jan Hammer. And the revenge was sweet...."Street Talk" was a massive commercial success. Those were the days....
