What about the punk band Gallows? Their album "Grey Britain" features songs about the economic downturn in Britain and its disproportionate effect on youth. This is causing depression, frustration and anger as a whole generation has been brought up in a materialistic, consumeristic world that has now receded out of reach for many.

Well this is a thread on punk. And Sid was the real deal. It's a version of an "argument from authority"..
says you. The sex pistols were jut one pice of the puzzle.

You've got it entirely backward. The very fact that the Sex Pistols' music was so simplistic was what gave them the moral authority to pronounce Queen's music as overdone/overblown. The Sex Pistols deliberately set out to be the counterpoint to the excesses exemplified by Queen. The Sex Pistols were in effect tweaking their noses at the pretentiousness of Queen's grandiose arrangements. "Yeah, yeah, Freddie. You do your 'art'. And we'll do the rock!" And they did. Much more furiously than Queen ever could.
ha well at least Queen played in tune and could actually sing in tune also. I would consider that to be more roll then a band than Sid who was more into shooting heroin then playing in tune. That I would consider more art.

Sid just looked the part, that's all. I like the Pistols but they were in essence a punk boy band, imho. Sid was just as much 'the real deal' as Andrew Ridgeley was a real musician.

And no, punk doesn't have to be a reaction against anything - it can be but it doesn't have to be. Punk is a feeling just like any other type of music. If it's played right.

Some bands made overblown a trademark and Queen did it best. Queen > Pistols :heheh:

Exactly the kind of argument parents were were making in the 50's.

Queen always has and always will reek.

I'm confused. You listen to alot of great stuff Akitvator where the singer isn't all that great but stands out because of his/her characther. Bands too.

You're not turning mainstream on us are you? :heheh: Nothing wrong with that.

Oh and I LOVE Queen also as well as own Bollocks...so I'm not taking sides here :cheers2

The fact that their is so much debate about what Punk is and the ideology behind it is a reason makes me glad I don't consider myself a Punk fan! :grinthumb I'm happier being just a fan of music who happens to like bands that might or might not get the grand title of "True Punk"! :grinthumb The truth is that these things are so ambiguous that if someone wanted to they could try and defend Barbra Streisand as true Punk! Actually if someone actually does that I'll give this thread a 5 Star rating! :grinthumb:lmao:
