Not my cup of tea ...but sent the video to my grandaughter who is a blond and plays bass.I love cover songs! I love how everybody has different criteria for what constitutes a great cover song. Faithfulness to the original or reinventing and making it your own? I fall into the camp that like reinventing is best. I'll start with a band I've seen three times and I just adore.
Brand New Key by The Dollyrots (originally done by Melanie)
I saw them perform this not too long after Melanie passed away and the intro was heartfelt.
Vocalist Kelly Ogden has an early morning slot on Sirius Radio's Little Steven's Underground Garage. Bonus info...I took my granddaughter to her first concert (The Dollyrots) for her 13th Birthday. She ended up on stage sharing a microphone with with Kelly and singing lead. Yeah, that happens at everybody's first concert. Also. congrats to my son for turning her onto The Dollyrots!
A great video.
Interesting version of an America song....might ck out their 'covers lp'.I'm not what anybody would call a big fan of The Dandy Warhols but that doesn't mean they are without talent. They released an album chock full of covers earlier this year and it's worth a few listens.
That's a name I havent heard in years....I have some Pink Fairies songs on a Brit psych compilation.Another 2026 album of covers is by The Pink Fairies. Only Paul Rudolph remains from the line-up that appeared on the first album in 1971.
Interesting fun versions .....if they came to my area I'd go see them if the cover charge was low and there was cold beer.I have to admit I enjoy cross genre fun when it comes to cover songs. These songs are from a tribute album titled, "Cover Yo'Azz!' by Cowboy Mouth.
This has a novelty feel to it but I'm sure it is a real hoot in a club.
This countryish style works great on this classic by Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson.
