Should the 1989 CD reissue of Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Head On" be that expensive?

OK, I've been a mega-huge Bachman-Turner Overdrive fan for a couple of years now, having collected the first CD reissues of their first four albums. However, I've been turned off of buying a first CD reissue of Head On because of the price: the cheapest one is like $59 on Discogs right now. Similarly, this particular pressing can't be had for less than $50 on eBay last I checked. I'm wondering: should this particular pressing of Head On really be THAT expensive? I can understand Rock n' Roll Nights commanding a hefty price point in its original CD pressing, but not this one.

I checked on eBay and it is indeed pretty expensive which is weird cos the LP is like $5.

Sorry to reply so late. I wasn't asking if it did cost that much; I was asking if it SHOULD cost that much.

I am also a bit of a BTO fan myself. I bought a 6 or 7 cd box set about 3 years ago which starts from there first album in 1973 onwards into the 1980s. The box set originates from Canada and I also have a similar 6 or 7 cd box set of the Canadian rock band April Wine issued by the same people. When it comes to BTO I usually play a 'best of' cd from Mercury records.

When it comes to the source recordings on my BTO box set I presume they AREN'T from the original master tapes.

I cannot see why albums like that are so costly?
Same with the Beatles red/ blue compilations...very rarely do you see them on offer on CD...and i do not like those slim cardboard sleeves. I have them on original vinyl..but the blue copy was always a shit pressing and jumps.
Maybe the label wanna squeeze the BTO fan.

Should it cost that much? Of course not and to be quite frank, only an idiot would pay that kind of money for any kind of CD. I collect vinyl, but I know there's still a market for CD collecting, especially certain editions, so that pushes the prices up. Personally I've never cared about first editions, or in the case of vinyl, original pressings. Often you'll get more for your money by buying reissues with lots of bonus tracks etc. In your particular case, I understand your wish to complete your collection of first reissues and I don't know what to tell you. I doubt the price is going to go down, but perhaps it's worth holding out for a future reissue, heck, you might be able to rebuy the other albums for less than what you'd pay for "Head On" right now. If there's one thing I've learned over the years of collecting, it's that more than often, patience pays off.

In the UK back in the mid/late 1990s they were selling cds for between £10-£15 a piece I would regularly spend £100 on a trip to HMV, Virgin & Tower Records in central London in an hour during the morning and come away with 7 or 8 cds. The record companies were loving it because people by the mid/late 1990s were dumping there old vinyl and rebuying the same albums on the cd format anyway a record executive showed up on the radio saying they were making 'tons of money' out of people buying cds!. Then by the end of the 1990s Napster came along and the record companies stopped laughing.

BTOs HEAD ON album?. By pure chance I have brought a BTO 8 cds box-set with me to work today that includes the HEAD ON album. The 8 cds box-set starts of course with the BTO album and finishes with ROCK 'n' ROLL NIGHTS.

Hey it's Rock & Roll dudes!!.
