The "Maritime Sailors Cathedral" mentioned in this song is actually called "The Old Mariners' Church." I used to walk past this building with reverence whenever I went to a concert at Detroit's Cobo Arena (Bob Seger Live Bullet and KISS Alive). Cobo Center is visible on the left side of the pic.

I remember the day the Fitzgerald went down. That was the only news to be told of around here. I've always felt that Gordon Lightfoot's tribute was apt if not exact.
