Hi everyone

I wonder if you can help me with info on a venue that appears on this list Jimi Hendrix Gig list
of Jimis gigs on his early 67 tour of the UK.

On (Sunday) Feb 19th 67 hes listed as playing at Bradys Club, London. Most of the dates and venues check out with ones that appear in the relevant Melody Makers (UK music business weekly). I actually went to The British Museum Newspaper archive to check. However the only date that is not listed in MM is the Bradys Club, London one.

Does anyone know where Bradys Club was ? Has anyone even heard of it before ? I've checked the business directorys for 67 in London and it doesnt appear - I also looked at the gig pages for 66 and 67 in Melody Maker to see if appears on other dates for other bands but it doesnt.

The reason I'm so interested is that one of the venues that some say ‘fits the bill’ is what came to be known as Bradys in Brixton (formerly The Railway Hotel)

however to the best of my knowledge it only became a music venue with that name in the mid 80s. Interestingly Jimi did play Brixton on that tour - The Ram Jam Club on Feb 4th.

The lovely Victorian Railway Hotel (Bradys) sadly closed down in the 90s and has criminally remained empty ever since. There are moves to re open it in some form and it would be great to find out the truth behind this particular Brixton legend as I think the poor old building deserves to have its future built on truth rather than myth.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated – can those of you with autobiographies and books with concert lists check to see if Feb 19th 1967 checks out as Bradys Club, London ? It would be great to find its address or anything at all about it.

Cheers

This is from an old PDF file I got from a friend years ago, but it has the gig listed on that date as the following:

February 19th, 1967 Blarney Club, London, England

Sorry I don't have more detailed information that I can quote from...my source could be incorrect as well...*shrug*

Phil I really am very grateful for that - after a lot of dead ends The Blarney Club gives me something new to go on.
It'd be interesting if any one elses gig list has Blarney over Bradys.

Thanks again Phil.

No sweat Tony.

I think The Blarneys Club leased it out as the UFO club as well. Too bad the following link doesn't have Hendrix listed on the booking dates, but it is Wiki after all, so it's not to be entirely trusted..

It does seem like the kind of place he would hang out though.

Thinking about it - why should the UFO Club listings show Jimi as playing. As your pdf list shows he was booked for The Blarney Club - the real name of the club that only became The UFO when the UFO promoters hired it. :pullhair:

To further confirm the Blarney Club listing, in the book Eyewitness Hendrix, (by Johnny Black) it states he played a gig there as well. Apparentley the band's wages were increased to 30 pounds a week after this gig as well.
