Randy Newman - Born Again
The cult of Randy's least favorite (if you don't count 'Faust' and maybe I don't)
I think it's good. I think it's REAL good.
Randy does for the record business what he did for the South in "Good Old Boys" - namely, cram a lot of impressions about it in a bunch of songs. Also, he was following up his biggest success. I loved when Elvis Costello sang that he wanted to bite the hand that feeds him. I REALLY loved it when Randy Newman and his crack session players actually took a big old CHOMP out of that hand.
I think it's his most underrated l.p. unless you count "Bad Love" from a few years back and maybe I do.
I love Randy Newman!
