Look upon this album with so much affection- it's like the last true offering of the 'old sound'... anyone else?

Agree with that sentiment. Wonderworld had really good songs imo, but they just weren't given the proper treatment. The whole album feels underproduced. Same with High and Mighty and Return To Fantasy. The tensions in the band were shining through on the album, especially with David's singing. He almost sounds bored on some songs.
