A pair of soundtracks... both of them very different!
Anyone ever see
Salon Kitty (1976) before? It's an Italian film from 1976, directed by Tinto Brass of
Caligula notoriety. It's about a high-class Berlin brothel used by Nazi intelligence for espionage purposes during World War II. It stars Swedish actress Ingrid Thulin (star of many Ingmar Bergman films) as Madam Kitty, as well as Helmut Berger. Interestingly enough, Thulin and Berger had co-starred together in Luchino Visconti's
The Damned (1969), another Nazi-themed Italian film. Also of interest is the fact that two other actors from
The Damned, Dirk Bogarde and Charlotte Rampling, had co-starred together in yet another Nazi-themed Italian film - Liliana Cavani's
The Night Porter (1974)! Think of the two later films as "bastard offspring" of
The Damned (with
Salon Kitty as
The Night Porter's rowdier, bawdier sibling!
