What amazes me is the maturity of Viv's playing on Holy Diver, as he was only about twenty or twenty-one at the time. If Dio had settled his differences with Campbell, the mind boggles as to what that band could have achieved. It seems that when he had a good guitarist, Dio could not keep them (Tracy Grijalva).

I stll like to know what he actually "wrote" in DIO aside from a riff here or there or guitar a squeal maybe where DIO himself didn't actually suggest it.

Cause if you look at all the years...you can HEAR DIO in everything he did. RAINBOW?? It all has that DIO feel to it...but in that band you can hear Blackmore and where it would have been much more of a collaboration.

Sabbath?? Same thing. Listen to Ozzy era and what DIO brought to Sabbath. Sounds like DIO...musically and lyrically. You can hear Iommi as well but to me Heaven and Hell & Mob Rules ect. seemed to have a LOT of DIO guidance in them.

Then the solo stuff.....after Vinnie left...musically and lyrically it all sounded like DIO songs and lyrics with Craig Goldy or whoever.

Yes he played bass in ELF...I've seen him with a guitar in many photos and interviews, I assume for writing.

I was thinking about Ronnie this morning, this feud with Campbell seems to be about the only major falling out he had with anyone over his long illustrious career. When he was sick and then passed away the accolades bestowed on him were far more than the usual pleasantries when you pay respects to the deceased.

From everything I've read, seen or heard Ronnie was one of the most easy going classy gentlemen in rock music period. The only time he showed any "Size" was when the took his spot on stage performing for the fans, then as he put it "That's My Stage".

I agree with MP's assessment, Dio's fingerprints are easy to see on any band he's worked with.

All this chat has me fired up, I'll put Holy Diver on sometime over the next couple days.:hb:
