1950 Blair Thornton (guitarist for Bachman-Turner Overdrive) is born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

1965 Slash (lead guitarist for Guns N' Roses) is born Saul Hudson in Hampstead, London, England.

1977 Foreigner releases "Cold As Ice."

2003 The US National Registry of Historic Places declares Memphis, Tennessee's Sun Studios, at 706 Union Avenue, a historic landmark.

2009 Danny "Dirty Dan" McBride (lead guitarist for Sha Na Na) dies in his sleep at age 63.

1966 - The Troggs led the Cashbox Best Sellers chart with their version of "Wild Thing". Lead singer Reg Presley would later say that after hearing the song for the first time, he was hesitant to record it because the words were "so corny."

1977 - Although it failed to catch on in the UK, "Looks Like We Made It" becomes Barry Manilow's third US number one single. The song had been written by Richard Kerr, the same man who wrote the music for Manilow's first number one, "Mandy".

1961, Born on this day, Paul Geary, drums, Extreme, (1991 US No.1 & UK No.2 single 'More Than Words'). Geary is now a manager working with The Smashing Pumpkins, Creed, The Scorpions, Fuel, Steel Panther, Jason Bonham and others.

1972, Bobby Ramirez drummer with Edger Winters White Trash was killed after becoming involved in a brawl in a Chicago bar. The fight started after comments were made about the length of his hair.

2005, Bad Beat singer Patrick Sherry died after a stage dive went wrong during a gig at the Warehouse in Leeds, England. Sherry lept towards the crowd at the end of the bands set and tried to grab a lighting rig from the ceiling but missed and hit the floor.

1978: The movie “Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” starring Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees, opened in New York City, NY.

1987: The movie biography of Richie Valens, “La Bamba,” opened.

1990: A wrongful death trial involving Judas Priest opened in Reno, NV. Parents had charged in a lawsuit that the band’s “Stained Class” album contained subliminal messages that drove two teen-agers to attempt suicide. The judge cleared the group.

2009 Mudvayne and Black Label Society headline the Pedal to the Metal U.S. festival tour. The first stop on the six-week trek is Portland, ME.

2012 Slipknot's compilation "Antennas To Hell" is out. The set is dedicated to late bassist Paul Gray. "To us, (the album) was just a compilation to celebrate the fact that our fans have been with us since day one, and to basically celebrate what we call the Paul years," says Slipknot front man Corey Taylor.

2013 Rush's show in Calgary, cancelled due to heavy flooding and damage, is moved to nearby Red Deer. The concert becomes a benefit for the Alberta Flood Relief. "After seeing the devastation from the recent floods, we felt compelled to do what we could," says bassist Geddy Lee.

2015 Lamb Of God roll out "VII: Sturm Und Drang" (German for "storm and stress"). The title indirectly refers to front man Randy Blythe's arrest in Prague on murder changes (he was later acquitted).

1969: Neil Young made his first appearance with Crosby, Stills and Nash.

1971: The Beach Boys released their album “Surf’s Up.”

1980: KISS introduced their new drummer, Eric Carr, at a concert at the Palladium in New York City.

1969, The Seattle Pop Festival took place at the Gold Creek Park, Woodinville, Washington. Acts who appeared over three days included, Chuck Berry, Tim Buckley, The Byrds, Chicago Transit Authority, Albert Collins, Bo Diddley, The Doors, The Flock, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Guess Who, It's A Beautiful Day, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Spirit, Ten Years After, Ike & Tina Turner, Vanilla Fudge, Alice Cooper and The Youngbloods.

1980, AC/DC released their sixth internationally released studio album Back In Black, the first AC/DC album recorded without former lead singer Bon Scott who died on 19 February 1980 at the age of 33. The album has sold an estimated 49 million copies worldwide to date, making it the second highest-selling album of all time, and the best-selling hard rock or heavy metal album.

1983, American heavy metal band Metallica released their debut studio album Kill 'Em All. The release is regarded as a groundbreaking album for thrash metal because of its precise musicianship, which fuses new wave of British heavy metal riffs with hardcore punk tempos.

2003, Erik Braunn from American psychedelic rock band Iron Butterfly died of cardiac failure at the age of 52. Braunn was just 16 years old when he joined Iron Butterfly who had the 1968 US No.14 single 'In-A- Gadda-Da-Vida’.
