1972 - Rod Stewart is on a roll with the release of "Never A Dull Moment" containing "You Wear It Well."

1979 - Robert Palmer's cover of Moon Martin's "Bad Case of Loving You (Doctor, Doctor)" is released.

2005 - Influential British Blues musician Long John Baldry dies in Vancouver, B.C., at the age of 64. Baldry's long and storied career included 40 albums. He was also a mentor to Rod Stewart, Jimmy Page and Mick Jagger. If that's not impressive enough, Baldry's band, Bluesology, had a young pianist named Reginald Dwight, who went on to become Elton John.

1948 Cat Stevens is born Steven Demetre Georgiou in Marylebone, London, England.

1955 Howie Epstein (bassist for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) is born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

1969 Blind Faith, a group comprised of Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech, release their self-titled debut album in the United States.

1971: Black Sabbath released their third album Master of Reality which went on to sell two million copies in the U.S. & reach number eight on the Billboard 200 Album Chart becoming their first and only top ten album in the U.S.


2007: Don Arden, the man once dubbed “the Al Capone of pop”, father of Sharon Osbourne & manager of acts such as The Small Faces, Black Sabbath, & Electric Light Orchestra died of Alzheimer’s disease in Beverly Hills. He was 81 years old.

1971 - Thirteen days after lead singer Jim Morrison passed away, The Doors are awarded a Gold album for "L.A. Woman". The L.P. included "Lover Her Madly" and "Riders on the Storm".

1999 - Gary "Gar" Samuelson, the drummer for Megadeth from 1984 through 1987, died of liver failure at the age of 41.

1947 - Take it to the limit. Eagles drummer and singer Don Henley is born in Gilmer, TX.

1967 - Pat Badger, bassist with Extreme, has a birthday.

1972 - The Who release the single "Join Together."

2003 - Jane's Addiction unfurl their 'comeback' album "Strays."

2008 - Candlebox issue their comeback album, "Into The Sun." This is the Seattle group's first studio effort since 98's "Happy Pills." "Making this record reminded me of the first album," says guitarist Peter Klett. "We didn't feel that we needed to find the sound, it was there and the goal was to capture it in the recording."

2010 - Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan collapses onstage during a show in Tampa while performing "Bullet With Butterfly Wings." "That wasn't a stage move or clumsiness," Corgan tweets. "I have no memory of falling against the drum riser and my guitar cabinet, but I can tell you I've got quite a good bruise [and] am moving slow."

1977, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham was charged with assault after a concert at the Oakland Coliseum in California. Bonham and band manager Peter Grant had the help of their bodyguard in roughing up a security employee at the venue. After pleading guilty to misdemeanors, the accused settle out of court for two million dollars. The tour would eventually be cancelled after Robert Plant's son died a few days later.

1989, Ringo Starr kicked off his first tour since the break-up of the Beatles with a show in Dallas. His backup band included guitarist Joe Walsh, organist Billy Preston and Bruce Springsteen's sax man Clarence Clemons.

1994, The International Astronomical Union named an asteroid orbiting between Mars and Jupiter after Frank Zappa who had died the previous December.

2009, On the afternoon of tonight's concert at First Energy Park, Lakewood, New Jersey, Bob Dylan was picked up by a young policewoman who had been alerted of a man who was 'acting suspiciously'. The police officer drove up to Dylan, who was wearing a blue jacket, and asked him his name, but she did not recognize him. When he was unable to produce any identification, Dylan was driven to his hotel where staff were able to vouch for him. The incident happened when Dylan decided to go for a walk in the afternoon while on tour with Willie Nelson who were due to perform at the local baseball stadium with John Mellencamp.

2011, Amy Winehouse was found dead at her north London home, she was 27. A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed that a 27-year-old woman had died in Camden and that the cause of death was as yet unexplained. London Ambulance Service said it had been called to the flat at 1554 BST and sent two vehicles but the woman died. The troubled singer had a long battle with drink and drugs which overshadowed her recent musical career.
