2016 Danny Smythe, drummer for The Box Tops on their hits "The Letter" and "Neon Rainbow", passed away at the age of 67.

2024 Joe Egan, songwriting partner of Gerry Rafferty in Stealers Wheel, passed away at the age of 77. The band reached #6 in the US and #8 in the UK with "Stuck In The Middle With You" in 1973.

1982: America released “You Can Do Magic” from tenth studio album, View from the Ground. The track was written and produced by Argent singer and guitarist Russ Ballard and went to #7 in the US.

1987: The Grateful Dead released their twelfth studio album and first in six years, In The Dark. The LP went on achieve double platinum certification in the US and reached #6 on the Billboard pop chart, making it the band’s only top ten album. The opening track, “Touch of Grey,” became the their only top 40 single, peaking at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

1957: John Lennon met Paul McCartney for the first time during a fete at St. Peter's Church Hall in Woolton, Liverpool, marking the beginning of The Beatles. That meeting set in motion the journey that led them to become one of the biggest bands in music history.

If I knew this about Joe Egan then I forgot it. Gerry Rafferty (also RIP) had some top shelf material that went under the radar.
