1975, Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore quit Deep Purple to form his own group Rainbow

1980, The Beach Boys, Santana, Mike Oldfield, Elkie Brooks, Lindisfarne and The Blues Band all appeared at Knebworth ’80, in Knebworth Park, England

2001, John Lee Hooker, American blues singer and guitarist died in his sleep aged 83. His songs have been covered by many artists including Cream, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, The Yardbirds, The Doors and The White Stripes. He appeared and sang “Boom, Boom” in the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers

1966: Jimmy Page made his live debut with the Yardbirds at London’s Marquee Club. Page started out playing bass with the group, but Chris Dreja soon after transitioned from rhythm guitar to bass, and Page became second guitarist to his friend Jeff Beck.

1985: Mötley Crüe released their third studio album titled Theatre of Pain. The Recording Industry Association of America certified this album quadruple Platinum in 1995.

1966: The Rolling Stones filed a lawsuit against 14 hotels in New York that barred them from staying there during a previous tour. This move highlighted the challenges that some bands faced in light of public scrutiny.
