1969: Joe Cocker made his debut on American television, performing a cover of Traffic's "Feelin' Alright" on The Ed Sullivan Show. He was accompanied by The Grease Band, and it was a milestone moment in the singer's career, as he was introduced to the public before his historic Woodstock performance only a few months later.

1945 John Wolters (drummer for Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show) is born in New Jersey.

1956 Rock singer-songwriter Jimmy Barnes, who performs with Cold Chisel and INXS, is born James Dixon Swan in Glasgow, Scotland.

1981 Original T. Rex bass player Steve Currie dies in a car accident at age 33, four years after the group's lead singer Marc Bolan met his demise in a similar fashion.

1987 - While on a plane en route from Miami to Boston, Ozzy Osbourne bought three rounds of drinks for everyone on the plane and sang "Crazy Train" over the PA system.

1990 - Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose married girlfriend Erin Everly, daughter of The Everly Brothers' Don Everly at the Cupid Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. Their marriage was annulled in January 1991.

2013 Original Steve Miller Band bassist Lonnie Turner passed away from lung cancer. His time with the band led to songs such as "Jet Airliner", "Swingtown", "Take the Money And Run", "Jungle Love" and many more.

2023 Tim Bachman, the co-founding guitarist and vocalist of Bachman-Turner Overdrive died of cancer at the age of 71. The Canadian band placed a string of hits on the Hot 100 in the mid-1970s, including "Let It Ride", "Takin' Care Of Business", and "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet".

1969: A group calling themselves the Chicago Transit Authority released their self-titled debut double album. After threats of legal action by the mass-transit company of the same name, the band’s name was shortened to simply “Chicago.” The album sold over a million copies by 1970 and reached #17 in the US and #9 in the UK.

1972: Wishbone Ash released their third studio album, Argus. It became the group’s most commercially and critically successful LP, peaked at #3 in the UK, and is considered a landmark album in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonization.

1947 Rock drummer Joel Larson (of The Grass Roots) is born in San Francisco, California.

1968 Carnie Wilson (of Wilson Phillips) is born in Bel Air, California, to The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson and his first wife, Marilyn Rovell.

1997 Lynyrd Skynyrd release the album Twenty, which is titled after the fact that it's being released 20 years after the plane crash that claimed the lives of three band members. It's their ninth studio album.

1967 The 14-hour Technicolour Dream benefit party for The International Times was held at Alexandra Palace, Muswell Hill in London. Seeing the event mentioned on TV, John Lennon called his driver and went to the show. Coincidentally, Yoko Ono was one of the performers. More than thirty acts appeared included The Move, The Pretty Things, Soft Machine, Tomorrow, The Flies, The Creation, Arthur Brown, and The Graham Bond Organisation. All the bands played for free. Members of Pink Floyd drove all night from an gig in The Netherlands arriving at 3 AM, and taking the stage at dawn. The entire event was documented by BBC Television.
