1949 Herman Rarebell (drummer for the Scorpions) is born in Schmelz, Germany

1950 Rudy Sarzo (bass guitarist for Quiet Riot, Whitesnake) is born Rodolfo Maximiliano Sarzo Lavieille Grande Ruiz Payret y Chaumont in Havana, Cuba, but will be raised in Florida.

1950 Graham Parker (lead singer of Graham Parker & the Rumour) is born in London, England.

1962 Kirk Hammett (lead guitarist for Metallica) is born in San Francisco, California.

1968 A group called Pogo, which includes Randy Meisner, Jim Messina and Richie Furay, debuts at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. They change their name to Poco to avoid legal action over the comic strip Pogo

1997 AC/DC release their Bon Scott tribute compilation Bonfire.

2017 Australian musician and songwriter Malcolm Young died age 64. Young was best known as a co-founder, rhythm guitarist, backing vocalist and songwriter for AC/DC. Except for a brief absence in 1988, he was with the band from its November 1973 beginning until retiring permanently in 2014. Young was born in 1953 in Glasgow before his family emigrated to Australia when he was 10. His family confirmed he was suffering from dementia in 2014.

2005 AC/DC's Angus Young tops Maxium Magazine's list of the "25 greatest short dudes of all time." The 5-foot, 2-inch guitarist beat out the two inch taller Napoleon Bonaparte and former NBA guard Spud Webb, who is a majestic 5-foot, 7-inches.

1943 Fred Lipsius (original saxophonist for Blood, Sweat & Tears) is born in The Bronx, New York.

1946 Drummer Joe Correro Jr. (of Paul Revere and the Raiders) is born in Greenwood, Mississippi.

1960 Matt Sorum (drummer for Guns N' Roses) is born in Orange County, California.

1973 Emerson, Lake, & Palmer release their fourth studio album, Brain Salad Surgery, featuring the live showstopper "Karn Evil 9."

1982 Led Zeppelin release their final studio album, Coda, a collection of unused songs recorded before drummer John Bonham died in 1980.

1983 Tom Evans of Badfinger commits suicide. Eight years earlier, his bandmate Pete Ham died in similar fashion. The acclaimed band had extraordinary bad business dealings with their record labels, Apple and Warner Bros., which were a contributing factor in their deaths.

2003 Rock bassist Greg Ridley (of Humble Pie, Spooky Tooth) dies of pneumonia in Alicante, Spain, at age 56.

1965, The Kinks, The Who, Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, The Hollies, Wilson Pickett and The Golden Apples Of The Sun all appeared at the Glad Rag Ball, Wembley Empire Pool, London. Wembley Pool seats 10,000 and is the biggest venue The Who had yet played. However, they are forced to use the communal amplifiers and Roger Daltrey storms off in mid act demanding The Who’s amps be installed. The rest of the band perform instrumentals while Roger gets pelted with vegetables. Finally The Who’s amps are brought on and Roger returns to the mike.

2012, Two farmers were found not guilty of health and safety offences after a giant hay bale crushed former ELO cellist Mike Edwards to death. He was killed instantly when the 600 kg (1320 pound) bale rolled down a field and landed on his van near Totnes in Devon in September 2010. In March 2011 in Plymouth an inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death on Mr Edwards.

2003 Meat Loaf collapsed onstage during a sold-out concert at London's Wembley Arena. He reportedly tried to continue his performance before being advised by paramedics on the scene to cancel the show.

2007 Kevin DuBrow, the charismatic lead singer for Quiet Riot, died at his home in Las Vegas at the age of 52.
