1946 Randy Meisner (bassist for Poco, Eagles) is born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

1947 Michael Allsup (guitarist for Three Dog Night) is born in Oakdale, California.

1948 Mel Galley (of Whitesnake) is born in Cannock, Staffordshire, England.

2014 Jerry Corbitt of The Youngbloods dies of lung cancer at age 71.

2007 Brad Delp lead singer of US rock band Boston committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in at his home in the New Hampshire town of Atkinson. He died from the smoke of two charcoal grills he’d lit inside his sealed master bathroom. He was found by police lying on a pillow on his bathroom floor with a note paper-clipped to his shirt which read: "Mr. Brad Delp. I am a lonely soul." Boston had the 1977 UK No.22 single 'More Than A Feeling' and the 1986 US No.1 single 'Amanda.'

1942 Experimental musician John Cale (of Velvet Underground) is born in Wales.

1945 Guitarist Robin Trower is born in London.

1948 Jimmie Fadden (guitarist, drummer for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) is born in Long Beach, California.

1964 Capitol Records releases a song called "Letter To The Beatles" by The Four Preps. The lyrics describe a boy lamenting the fact that he's lost his girlfriend to The Fab Four. On its first day, the record shot to #85 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it looked like The Preps were going to have another hit on their hands. Unfortunately they had included a few bars from "I Want To Hold Your Hand" without permission and Capitol was forced to withdraw the single to avoid a lawsuit. These days you can still find the song on YouTube.

1963 Jeff Ament (bassist for Pearl Jam) is born in Havre, Montana.

1971 Douglas Ardito (guitarist, bass guitarist for Puddle Of Mudd) is born in Bedford, Massachusetts.

1975 Jerry Horton (lead guitarist for Papa Roach) is born in Charleston, South Carolina.

1979 James Brown appears at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, where he performs "You're Cheatin' Heart," "Tennessee Waltz" and the very un-Country "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag."

1988 30 year old Andy Gibb, younger brother of Bee Gees Robin, Maurice and Barry, died from a viral infection in his heart. Andy hadn't had a chart hit since 1981, but did have a stint as host of the Solid Gold TV show. Shortly before his death and just after he declared bankruptcy, Andy had signed a record deal and was working on a new album for Island Records that was never completed.

2005 53-year-old Danny Joe Brown, the original lead singer of Molly Hatchet, died from renal failure due to complications from diabetes. Brown was the front man for the band's self-titled album in 1978, which went Platinum. In 1979, the next album, "Flirtin' With Disaster" sold over 2 million copies.

2017 Joni Sledge, a part of the trio known as Sister Sledge, died of natural causes at the age of 60. The group is most often remembered for their 1979 Disco hit, "We Are Family".
