2020 Australian Rock legends AC/DC reached the top spot on Billboard's Artist 100 chart for the first time in their career with their latest album, "Power Up". It was the band's third #1 album, following 1981's "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" and 2008's "Black Ice" which topped the Hot 200 chart.

1976 The Band made their final performance; 'The Last Waltz' held on American Thanksgiving Day, at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. The show also featured Joni Mitchell, Dr John, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton and others. The event was filmed by director Martin Scorsese and made into a documentary of the same name, released in 1978.

1984 The cream of the British pop world gathered at S.A.R.M. Studios, London to record the historic Do They Know It's Christmas? The single, which was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, featured Paul Young, Bono, Boy George, Sting and George Michael. It went on to sell over three million copies in the UK, becoming the bestselling record ever, and raised over £8 million ($13.6 million) worldwide.

2007 Kevin Dubrow, the frontman with metal band Quiet Riot, was found dead in his Las Vegas home at the age of 52. Their 1983 release Metal Health was the first metal album to top the US charts. The band's biggest hit was 'C.u.m. on Feel the Noize', a cover of the Slade song which they are said to have grudgingly recorded in just one take.

1940 R&B singer Percy Sledge is born in Leighton, Alabama.

1944 Drummer Bev Bevan (of Electric Light Orchestra) is born in Sparkhill, Birmingham, England.

1967 "Incense And Peppermints" by Strawberry Alarm Clock hits #1 in America. The song is co-written by the band's guitarist, Ed King, who later joins Lynyrd Skynyrd.

1992, The Bodyguard, opened nation-wide featuring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. The film which was Houston’s acting debut was written by Lawrence Kasdan in the 1970s, originally as a vehicle for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross. It became the second-highest-grossing film worldwide in 1992 with the soundtrack becoming the best-selling soundtrack of all time, selling more than 42 million copies.

1996, A statue in Montreux, Switzerland by sculptor Irena Sedlecka was erected as a tribute to Freddie Mercury. It was unveiled by Freddie’s father and Montserrat Caballé, with bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor also in attendance. The statue stands almost 10 feet (3m) high overlooking Lake Geneva.

1985: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their first official live album, Pack Up the Plantation: Live!. The double LP was primarily recorded at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles during their 1985 tour but also includes several tracks from previous tours.

1997: The original lineup of the Zombies reunited onstage for the first time in 30 years at London’s Jazz Cafe to perform and promote their new box set Zombie Heaven.

1945 John McVie (bass guitarist for Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers) is born in Ealing, London, England.

1946 Bert Ruiter (bass guitarist for Focus) is born in Amsterdam.

1948 Gayle McCormick (lead singer for Smith) is born in St. Louis, Missouri. Smith was known for the 1969 hit cover of the Shirelles' "Baby It's You."

1965 After cleaning a church in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, where they had Thanksgiving dinner the day before, Arlo Guthrie and a friend clean up the place, but toss the trash down a hill when they can't find an open dump. They are arrested, fined $25 each, and forced to pick up the garbage. When they return to the church, Guthrie writes "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" about the incident, embellishing some details.

1973 John Rostill (bassist for The Shadows), age 31, dies when he is electrocuted by his improperly grounded guitar equipment.
