Robby Krieger has confirmed he’ll reunite with The Doors bandmate John Densmore for a tribute show to Ray Manzarek, who died earlier this year.

Just one gig is planned – but the guitarist says more could follow.

Krieger tells Rolling Stone: “We’re going to do at least one show for Ray and have a big send-off.

“That’s either the start or the end of it. I don’t know.”

The Doors’ surviving members have settled their differences after legal battles over the past decade, with Densmore suing Krieger and Manzarek for using the band name without him, and the pair countersuing over lost income because the drummer wouldn’t sign a licensing deal.

Krieger reflects: “That’s what you do; if someone sues you, you sue them twice as hard back and hope they drop the suit.

“It was a very stupid idea. We had the worst lawyers.”

He continues: “I can’t hate him for ever – he’s the one that got me into the Doors. I just wish he’d wanted to play with Ray and I back before all this started.”

Manzarek passed away in May after a cancer battle, aged 74. Krieger says: “He had a good run. For a rock’n'roller that’s a pretty good age.”

A date for the tribute show hasn’t been confirmed.

There will never be The Doors truly without Morrison to me.

The Doors, particularly Densmore, seemed as quarrelsome after their split as Black Sabbath. I believe there could have been a Doors without Morrison as Full Circle showed a lot of promise and Manzarek was supremely gifted. This Densmore-Krieger project has the feel of shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.

Cool guitarist and drummer. This could be pretty good.

No, it most definitely won't. But it could be interesting all the same.

That would be rather bizarre if they started touring together after Ray died... like, yo, you don't think Ray might have liked to have you in the band sooner John?

But it's good that they'll do a tribute to Ray and I don't think they'll start touring or anything like that.

If they do this, this one time for Ray, I think that would be a good thing.
