In terms of production I can agree with that actually. But for some reason it doesn't really annoy me, I find those albums to still be decent.
I haven't heard Formation but I can say the new album was awesome. They sound at their revitalised best.

I think Eric is much happier nowadays with guitar duties shared more evenly, he gets the chance to come out more.

Maybe I expected a new kind of The Gathering when I had a first listen to the new album. It isn't. Listened to it several times after that and I am really liking it. It's a grower!!

Last two TESTAMENT albums are awesome. I reeally like all of their stuff though even The Ritual ( most mainstream sounding ) and Demonic ( death metal w/ no solos ) albums appeal to me.

I'd put the new album up there with The New Order, The Legacy, and The Gathering. Great production and musicianship.
Always was a fan of Testament, but I don't listen to them enough.

Formation is pretty damn good. No such thing as a bad Testament album at all.
Screw the big four concept, these guys are just as good.

I have just 3 TESTAMENT albums ...The Legacy,The New Order and Souls of black.....and have been fortunate to have seen them play "live" on a couple of occasions.
A friend was blasting out one of their recent cds the other day....and I thought this is a band that I have neglected of late and sound as HEAVY as ever!! :grinthumb
