Starset is a band that mixes the Hard Rock melodies of Breaking Benjamin together with the epic space Rock of 30 Seconds to Mars! They also deliver the coolest stage show I've ever seen by an emerging band who doesn't have the budget of say a U2. The band comes out with these dual image screens with media playing to interludes of Science Fiction mobnolgues and performing with heavy space suits in which you see the sweat dripping down under the glowing lights. The band takes it's science and philosophies seriously calling themselves the Starset Society and are releasing an actual book of their beliefs and philosophies on technology and it's influence on our future. This makes sense since the frontman has a PHD in electrical engineering and has done studies with the US Air Force as well as teaching at the International Space University. This is a breath of fresh air where a band may be comfortable along the back to basics Rock set but have a lot more layers than most.

Singles
My Demons, Carnivore & Halo

Telescope
(This is more of an ambient moody slow burner I like on the album)

Live
(The sound is much better live but this is the look it had. I went to see the show as Ten Years was the main band and their were three band there. The Starset show ruled the whole night and it was a very pleasant surprise)

Excellent stuff ! Do you know Soot there is sometimes nothing better than discovering for yourself a new band.....who are way down the bill...and are a big surprise. STARSET sound well.
The studio tracks are good but maybe too commercially polished,...but Iam being really critical here.
I prefer the "Live" sound better where you can hear the heavy guitars and the crashing cymbals coming through. Well impressed with the vocalist too

I was nervous posting the live ones because what you hear in a vid can be picked apart easier when you KNOW that wasn't your experience live. I'm not saying that I don't agree that you can't hear how good they are live but I'm still cautious. LOL

These guys I can't credit as my discovery as I have had my roommate talk about them prior and that was the band he wanted to see. He listens to more commercial Rock radio myself and I'm just not a radio fan even though I have no problem falling in with any radio ready Rock bands. I heard them in snippets through him but when I saw them live I was hooked. It's one of those times where this band emerged in a format that was tailored to their style but they have a little more going for them as far as being more interesting than some of their paint by numbers peers. This was evident by the final established band that was playing,Ten Years. I like their sound but it's so monotonous over time and songs bleed into each other. As far as Starset now that I got the hook I bought and have really been appreciating the full album more and more. :)

space Rock of 30 Seconds to Mars!

Don't be offended, but when I think about space rock, nothing could be further from my mind than 30 Seconds to Mars. As for Starset, I don't think they have much to do with space rock either, except on the visiual side. That being said, they do sound pretty epic, really like the synth work and the melodies are catchy. "Telescope" was excellent and although some of the other songs sound almost too "clean" or "safe", I think I could get really into these guys.
