Forget Matchbox 20! For me Sister Hazel was one of those bands that represented the best of pop rock from the 90's on. They always had the best hooks and a folksy quality that separate the from the flock. They are also the most enduring as with a major label or not they always have a strong loyal fanbase and release new music each year! Lastly, they have the best collection of ballads out of any of those groups. I don't own all their music but I've got a decent collection of theirs nonetheless! I've also seen them live and they are just a band that is happy to play and have a good time with their audience. The song most people would've been introduced to the band through would've been off of their second album which was their breakthrough:

Somewhere More Familiar

All For You
(the perfect pop song, gets stuck in your head like a magnet to metal)

It was the next album where I would fall for the band though. The album:

Fortress

Hooked me with perhaps the most powerful radio ballad ever next to "My Immortal"! The song was called "Champagne High" and it was the perfect song about looking at a lover who's moved on with their lives while you haven't figured out your own yet. What a perfect topic done in a perfect way lyrically, emotionally and musically. A real tearjerker!!!! :wa

Champagne High

I wasn't looking for a lifetime with you
And I never thought it would hurt just to hear
"I do" and "I do"
And I do a number on myself
And all that I thought to be
And you'll be the one
That just left me undone
By my own, hesitation

Bridge
and for the million hours that we were
well I'll smile and remember it all
then I'll turn and go
while your story's completed mine is a long way from done.

Chorus
Well I'm on a champagne high
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high
I'd toast to the future but that'd be a lie
On a champagne high, high

Spring turned to summer
But then winter turned to mean
The distance seemed right
At the time it was best - to leave
And to leave behind
What I once thought was fine And so real - to me
And while I'm still gone
On the quest for my song
I'm at your - celebration

Bridge & Chorus

Your wagons been hitched to a star
Well now he'll be your thing that's new
Yeah what little I have you can borrow
'Cause I'm old and I'm blue...

Bridge

Well I'm on a champagne high (so high)
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high (so high)
Toast to the future but that'd be a lie
On a champagne high
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high...high...
So high so high you left me undone
so high, so high you left me undone...

Also another great ballad! A passionate acoustic with a great vocal!

Your Winter

And to show they weren't all tearjerkers the first single off the album Change Your Mind was as uplifting as a song can get!

Change Your Mind

My favorite album from them however is:

Chasing Daylight

Everything from the title to the overall vibe and the beauty of the music had me hooked! First some great moving track (musically) before the ballads to show they aren't all about ballads for me!

Life Got In The Way/One Love

So now the most gorgeous pieces!

Hopeless
(so sad, relatable and beautiful)

My favorite Sister Hazel ballad made even better by the acoustic version. This song touches me pretty deeply!

Best I'll Ever Be (album and acoustic version)

I miss you
I miss being overwhelmed by you
And I need rescue
I think I'm fading away
But I keep thinking that you'll wake me up with a whisper in my ear
I keep hoping that you'll sneak in my room

So I wait and I wait
And I run old scenes through my tired head
Of the days we laid by the school and said forever
Was that the best I'll ever be

I miss you
I miss talking all night long with you
And I need this to find a way to your home
My love can you hear me
Have I been hoping loud enough, wishing hard enough
Can you see me when I'm asleep all alone - alone

So I wait and I wait
And I run myself in the same old circles
I sit and I stare
And I run old scenes through my tired head
Of the days that we laid by the school and said forever
Was that the best I'll ever be

Can't keep my hands from shaking
Stumbling through the wreckage again
But you're gone

So I wait and I wait
And I run myself in the same old circles
And I sit and I stare
And I run old scenes through my tired head
Of the days that we laid on our backs and said forever
Was that the best I'll ever be
Was that the best I'll ever be
Was that the best I'll ever be

Well, just another band that's big in my library I thought was worthy of the honor of an official thread! :cheers2

Checked out all the tunes here and my favorites are Champagne High, One Love and Best I'll Ever Be...pretty good stuff. Kinda John Popper in the vocal department.

Not sure if you hear that too...:grinthumb

I can get the similarity! They are both rootsy pop artist and the vocals do resemble elements of one another! :cheers2

Re: The Official "Sister Hazel" Thread

It was eating at me there for a while until about the third song and I was all...
