For anybody looking for some great post rock / ambient, this album is your pick

So, I really love Sigur Ros, one of my all time favorite bands in the post rock genre. But this album in particular is easily one of their bests, in my opinion. This is one of those albums that you would listen to if you needed to be in a calming environment. Don't get me wrong, Sigur Ros did a pretty fine job on their albums before this release, Ágætis byrjun being one of those releases. That probably has to be my 2nd favorite Sigur Ros release.
Takk... has it's own significance to it though, I try to listen to this album when i'm feeling upset, or overheated, and I just need something to calm me down, this album does that, especially when all of the songs are very calming, and easy to listen to. Not to mention, Jonsi's voice is by far the most amazing vocals I have ever heard. A man who can get up in those high vocals without an issue definitely goes well in my books. All the songs on this album are amazing as well, Hoppipola and Andvari are two that stick out the most however, and they're probably the 2 most listened to songs for me. Andvari is just so emotionally captivating. To me, it really gets me to think about everything, even if I can't understand the lyrics. It's still got a great feel, and the vocals make it even better.
Moving on to the whole "I can't understand the lyrics" thing. I had heard of Sigur Ros back in high school, but I wasn't totally into them at the time, because I wasn't really sure if the vocals were supposed to be what they were. But the music grew on me. I think if the song sounds good, and the vocalist can help with making it sound good, even in a different language, the need to really understand the lyrics doesn't matter too much. That mostly would go for bands who sing in different languages though. I would assume that I would want to understand english lyrics. But this band makes their music so beautiful, that even though they're speaking in a different language, it's still very easy to feel what they're feeling when listening. At least that's the way it is for me.
If you haven't given this band a chance, or have never really been into the post rock genre, give this album a go, just for old times sake, it's a pretty spectacular album and offers a lot.
5/5
