A thread about all that shred.

I'll kick things off with Mr. Michael Angelo Batio and his astounding Double Guitar Solo:

Well since I think MAB might've melted everyone's face how about a little further face melting, eh?

At the end of his snippet of "Burn" you can see exactly why the people of Asia nicknamed MAB "Hands Without Shadows". ;)

Not that shredding is a defining art in metal, but there is fast and then there is lightning fast. Chris Impellitteri is lightning fast.

another great shredder and musician is Buckethead. Buckethead is a guitarists guitarist. If you ever see him in concert, you will undoubtedly be amazed.

I am not a huge fan of shredding, but I do love MAB and Buckethead. Obviously I dont like them for shredding but because they are guitar virtuoso's.....excellent players.

Yes I agree, Magic. Admittedly, I used to be all about the fastest players in the world during my "all things metal" phase back in the day but through that I discovered many very talented musicians that stood out from the guys that just play fast. One of these musicians is Steve Vai whom I firmly believe is the single most talented guitarist alive.

While I prefer Steve's most classical compositions ("Lotus Feet", "Blue Powder", "For The Love Of God", etc) with more dynamics for the sake of the thread and it's shred quota here is "Building The Church":

Steve Vai is a great guitarist, one of my top fave's. So is John Petrucci, and he can shred with the best of them.

Did you know the Guiness Book of World Records has an entry for the fastest guitarist?

Yes, John Petrucci is absolutely amazing. I still remember getting into an argument with someone who said that he "had no soul" in his playing. :wft: So very very wrong.

I was aware of the record for fastest guitar and I think it's kind of a silly record. I mean, I remember watching a video of some guy in his basement who claimed to have the current record for it and all he did was play one note really fast. The guy in the video above though is much more interesting than that guy at least.
