I'm hooked too, I love their early stuff but these boys are churning out some real gems in their later years and keeping up with the big boys...:)

The debut album really does remind me of the self titled Iron Maiden album. Gritty but very well produced music.

The closing track Militia Guard was my favourite on the album.

Rainbow Theme and Frozen Rainbow not far behind.

I like Innocence Is No Excuse. It has a commercial feel to it but I still like the music. Saxon like any other band were quite entitled to try to do something a bit different even with possible backlash resulting and being a new fan of these guys it seemed likely I wouldn't like this album but I really dig the different tone to it and I also loved Crusader.

^^Innocence is the best of the "trilogy" before Solid Ball of Rock came out. I think it's a decent album. You can't blame a band for trying to be successful and make some money especially if they're going through hard times.

Seeing the formula worked for bands like Boston and Foreigner I understand why they gave it a shot.

But I was glad when they returned to form later.

I also loved Crusader, I bought a vinyl copy and it sounds really good.:D

^^ I really rate Crusader as well LG, they may well have been leaning towards the American market just as other Brit bands were trying to do at that time. Who can blame them that's where the big money was. I think Saxon knocked out a bit of a belter with this '84 effort. :grinthumb

"Sailing To America"

Also I think Saxon did it with a bit of fun attached ?
