Satch Wants Tommy Lee For Chickenfoot

6th October 2010

Joe Satriani wants Tommy Lee to replace Chad Smith in Chickenfoot if the Red Hot Chili Pepper can’t tour with the supergroup next year.

In an interview with Music Radar, Satch revealed that while Chad Smith will almost certainly record the new album, they may need to find a new drummer for a tour next year as the Red Hot Chili Peppers will probably also be touring.

“We just did two shows with Chad, and they were fantastic. Chad played like a crazed madman. He was totally on fire, brilliant in every way. Afterward, he said he's still committed to the band, so that was cool. We're due to meet at the end of January and complete the second Chickenfoot album. So everybody's attitude is, full speed ahead.

"Were Chad not able to be in the band because of the Chili Peppers, I think it would be fun to get somebody really outrageous like Tommy Lee. He's a great drummer, a lot of fun and a crazy personality. We've had some guys sit in from time to time. Some names that have been thrown around are Abe Laboriel Jr [Paul McCartney drummer] and Jason Bonham - they'd be really great. I'm not too worried about Chad completing the record. As for touring, we'll have to see. Obviously, he's going to be pretty busy."

In the meantime Joe has his own tour and album to promote. The record is out now and Joe hits the road on 17 October in the UK.

Here’s the dates:

Sunday 17/10 - Manchester, Apollo
Monday 18/10 - Bristol, Colston Hall
Tuesday 19/10 - London, HMV Hammersmith Apollo
Thursday 21/10 - Newcastle, City Hall
Friday 22/10 - Glasgow, SECC
Saturday 23/10 - Birmingham, Symphony Hall

That is interesting but I am not a big Tommy Lee fan myself. But if the rest of the guys think it would be a good fit then I'm sure Tommy would consider it as long as his Motley Crue schedule is unaffected. They have played here about 3 times in the last 18 months give or take.

OH no, not Tommy Lee. Satriani has tossed out some other names too, one being Jason Bonham, and he would fit in a whole lot more than Tommy, IMHO. Tommy Lee and Sammy Hagar wont get along.............
