Hey LOU , nice thread. I'm a big fan of the Boss' MANOWAR work but hadn't heard much more of his other stuff. Really like the Ross The Boss videos and gonna have to check into them for sure now.
Bucky...I love your "live" reviews you have the gift in making people feel that they were there at the gig. Some performance for B.O.C to give SABBATH[with DIO ] a run for their money !!
MP.....good to hear you liking the "bloodbrothers" DICTATORS album....it is a beauty
DKW.......I love MANOWAR too...especially the early albums !!....we will get to them soon .....not going to dwell on them too much as MP has an excellent thread up about the band. ROSS THE BOSS [the band ] sound terrific...got to get the albums a.s.a.p
SHAKIN STREET
Fabienne Shine model/actress born in Tunisia [Africa] but raised in Paris. She met Johnny Thunders [New York Dolls] who wrote the song for her " you cant put your arms round a memory"
After SHAKIN STREET [ Named after a MC5 song] split she joined her husband [Damon Edge ] in the U.S industrial space rock band CHROME . Sadly Damon died in 1985 . Since then she has toured with CHROME member HELIOS CREED, done solo material etc
Apart from Ross the Boss and Fabienne.......the band also contained a guy who went on to bigger things ERIC LEVI . His band ERA took a different music approach to his work with SHAKIN STREET........New Age music similar to style like ENIGMA with gregorian chant. The debut ERA album released in 97 was a huge success shifting over 6 million copies. No surprise to see ERA doing musical film scores.
From SHAKIN STREET Ross The Boss then linked up with bass player Joey De Maio . The story goes they met backstage at a Black Sabbath gig , De Maio was a Sabbath sound roadie at the time. Shakin Street were a support band and the guys became good friends to form heavy metal band MANOWAR !!!
When the debut album hit the shelves it was like a battering ram.....every track a classic.Death tone,Fast taker etc etc Superb.
Ross the Boss as a heavy metal guitarist became legend.....hard to believe this was the same guy that was in THE DICTATORS
Joey De Maio is a mighty fine bass player too ,not forgetting the excellent vocal range/style of Eric Adams
Image wise MANOWAR had their critics, what with the loincloths made from roadkill .....but what the hell I love them . If Conan the barbarian had been a rock star he would have been in MANOWAR !!! They rock......check out MPs thread
Ross The Boss was with MANOWAR for 8 years recording some of his and the bands finest work. Ive got a realsoft spot for the album "Hail to England " ....if you ever want to buy a MANOWAR album this is the one !!
Then in 1988 Ross was told in no certain terms to leave the band by De Maio who thought the band would be better off without him
MANOWAR without Ross The Boss ? unthinkable at the time....but both artists have done pretty well since.
In 1990 Ross was back with his old mates from THE DICTATORS ........under the moniker MANITOBAS WILD KINGDOM
He was back to his roots and even MTV took a shine to them by playing the video ,they also released an album "And you "
In 1994 Ross was playing in a blues based band HEYDAY. THE DICTATORS also reformed
In 2004 he got together with ex BLUE OYSTER CULT drummer Albert Bouchard in the band BRAIN SURGEONS . I have still to track down the album "Denial of death" but have heard the excellent track "Plague of lies ". Excellent guitar work by Ross .
2005 Ross joined MANOWAR onstage at the Earthshaker festival
2006 Played with THE DICTATORS final gig at CBGBs
2007 Played a tour in Spain with the band THE THUNDERBOLTS
2008 Ross played gigs festivals with SHAKIN STREET and THE DICTATORS
You are going to LOVE those ROSS THE BOSS albums Sweaty......good old style heavy metal at its best.
Good to see Ross and the band doing the song "Plague of lies "....a song he previously did with THE BRAIN SURGEONS .Both albums have a Manowar feel about them on certain tracks....but thats NOT a bad thing.
Heres a cracking track "Behold the kingdom"
