RASPUTINA is a cello driven band that began it's career in 1996 with their first album Thanks For The Ether
A band that I really have grown fond of over the years, not only in sound and song but in imagry as well. The band's image is very victorian, and the photography is that of the early 1900's

Fronted by lyricist and songwriter, Melora Creager, grew up in Kansas but had moved to New York. The group itself went through many line up changes. With her partner Julia Kent, the duo toured with Nirvana as Traveling Ladies' Cello Society
Since the release of their first album they had toured with Bob Mould, Porno for Pyros and Marilyn Manson early on. Manson would end up producing their follow up EP entitled, Transylvanian Regurgitations

I sampled this group a couple years ago after reading about them! I was at a borders and I ran through an album and I wasn't overly impressed but I like them better here. They had a lot fuller sound in this thread and the album was so rustic sounding it had a lower sound quality than the live track you posted here. (I don't recognize the album as being in this thread BTW!) Maybe that was the intention, it was too quick to judge after one listen or my listening hadn't reached that level yet. Regardless I like the sound. I know you thought I'd like "A Quitter" the best. It was good but my favorite ended up being "The Mayor". That track went from being balls to the wall odd and then like a folky epic to as catchy as a pop song!
