Down To Earth was the first album for Blackmore to make love songs. Dio did not want that so he left Rainbow.

I'm not a huge fan of either for all the reasons stated already but Joe Lynn Turner era Rainbow always had at least a couple cool songs per album..so I vote for Richie .

I liked Aerosmith's cover of "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" off of "Night In the Ruts" a whole lot but "Down To Earth" has a great cover in it's own right with "Since You Been Gone". As a whole I think "Down To Earth" is the better album and I really love Graham Bonnet's vocals and there just isn't enough material out there by him so Rainbow gets my vote.

NIght in the Ruts was probably the weakest of all of Aerosmith's albums in the 70's (I'd like to see someone point out one that was worse).

Down To Earth was a ~major~ change in the direction Rainbow was going upon the departure of Ronnie J Dio. Neither album is great by any means, but if I had to pick one, I'd probably take Rainbow.

In the grand scheme of things though, since there's a both option, I'm going that route.

Draw The Line was worse than Night In The Ruts. IMHO, it's only got 3 great songs on it, Draw The Line, Bite The Hand That Feeds, and Kings And Queens. The rest is so-so. Night In The Ruts is far better from start to finish. It was their last listenable album as far as I'm concerned.:D

With all that being said, I'm taking the 3rd option. I like both equally.
