Okay I'm still having teething problems here. lol.

Is it just me or... are unread posts not showing as unread/boldfaced sometimes???

I logged into the forum this morning and some of the posts and replies that I'd not even checked yet in various threads, looked... read.

Gonna miss out on replies if this continues to happen! :uh:

^^Go to your User CP, open Options and check your settings Musikwala. Look at the thread subscription options, that way you can get a notification to any thread you post in.

If you are still having trouble let us know.

I know what you're saying because I've used vBulletin forums before. But that's not it. I always have Subscriptions set to "Do not subscribe". But it still shows me new/unread posts correctly on other forums.

What I'm seeing here is: Whenever I click "New posts", either there are very few search results that come up (which could very well be because there are only a few threads that got updated since I last visited) OR... many of the new posts I haven't even seen yet are already in "read" mode. So unless I remember and look up a particular thread I posted in, I end up missing any new posts there. Ideally they should come up when I click on "New posts".

Just looked up something related in the forum FAQs. Does this have anything to do with it??

The administrator can also set up the forums so that each thread you read is marked in the database. If this option is set, then new threads (or threads with new posts) will not be marked as read until you have actually read them.

There is a built-in time limit to this, however, that will automatically mark all threads as 'read' after a set number of day, whether you really have read them or not. The default setting is 10 days, but the administrator could make this higher or lower.

I will check the settings.

Threads should not be marked "read" until you actually read them.

Just an FYI: "New Posts" in the navigation bar will only show up since your LAST login.

Another method to see all posts in the last 24 hours, click "Quick Links" in the navigation bar. Then select "Today's Posts".

another scenario that could be happening to you is an inactivity time out. If you login and don't at least refresh the page every 45 minutes, the program gives you a time out. Make sure you tick the "remember me" box when you log in ;)

Please do check, because I'm positive that it is sometimes making posts as "read" before I even check them. There may be some time limit involved. If you could just extend that time limit to... at least a week or so, that would be better.

Yea I see that. That is a bit weird to me. I'm used to New Posts showing everything no matter when you logged in last. But this is not a huge trainsmash. :grinthumb

This one is nice. I like it. This is more like the New Posts feature that I'm used to.

I always tick the "remember me". ;)

Thanks so much for your help, Magic.

Oh, I forgot to tell you that your UserCP shows all threads you post in. This might help you keep track of posts :)

PS. I will check the admin settings when I am not on my IPad.

I've experienced many things over the years in forums, but never what MW posted. Maybe it's a browser issue...:hm:

If he's still having trouble maybe have him try IE and see if the same thing happens.

Unless he's sorted it out already then you can ignore this post.;)

If one has not contributed to a particular thread ever, do new posts in that thread automatically become "read" even before you check them out??? For example: I have never posted in the Bruce Springsteen thread and... today's new posts were already in "read" mode by the time I saw them.

There is definitely something going on with the settings. :( Posts are changing from "unread" to "read" too soon.

^^I don't think it's the forum MK, you are the only one having this problem.

My advice, try using IE or Chrome and see if the new posts are showing properly. It might be a FF bug, although I use FF myself because it's the best browser out there.

I checked the settings. Everything is fine. "Unread" threads are done by cookies. You may be loosing your cookies to a session timeout. Vbulletin assumes after 30 minutes of inactivity that you SHOULD be logged out and clears your cookies. Poof! There goes the "new posts in bold" :D

The vbulletin program will keep all your unread threads current for 10 days. If you do not log in for 10 days, you may lose the unread threads.

Special note: Vbulletin does not track unread POSTS.

As I mentioned above, you can keep track of all the threads you have posted in via your userCP
