I really liked the Elton one before this one but i think I have to try this one again as it didn't hit me right off. i think the prior one was more 70's Elton and the new one is more like his 80's material perhaps.
My listening direction the past few years has taken me down the path of Symphonic Metal. However, I don't listen exclusively to that genre, I listen to all kinds of different stuff.
With that said, the big stand out for me thus far is Avantasia - Ghostlights. Tobias Sammet is a genius writer and a perfectionist. This album, however, is eclectic in music styles, which is why it stands out for me.
Im always on the hunt for something that is new, different, overlooked, and possibly ground breaking. I stumbled upon a debut album by founding member of Animal Collective, Josh 'Deakin' Dibbs. He is calling his solo stuff Deakin and the debut album is Sleep Cycle. I'm not sure how to describe the album other than it is an extremely well blended mix of music styles........from ambience to psychedelic, mixed with folk / jazz / electronic. The album title is fitting. I'm aware this type music is not for the masses, but it really is decent and worth a listen (or two).
