Time for a review on the first official Morbid Angel album which is also considered by many to be their best album. Altars of Madness.

Morbid Angel in their early works were known for their satanic type lyrics, David Vincent said himself he had a fascination with that stuff back in the early days, and the question is what would Morbid Angel produce? The answer is some of the greatest recorded metal riffs, some awesome blast beating by Pete Sandoval, Dave Vincent with those brutal growling vocals that had become so infamous.

The Album Tracks.

1. Immortal Rites
2. Suffocation
3. Visions From The Dark Side
4. Maze of Torment
5. Lord of All Fevers & Plague
6. Chapel of Ghouls
7. Bleed For the Devil
8. Damnation
9. Blasphemy
10. Evil Spells

Morbid Angel were one of the main pioneers and one of the first bands to kick off the death metal scene, with talent in their line up like Pete Sandoval, Trey Azagthoth, David Vincent and Richard Brunelle they really set about putting their first record out there.

Altars of Madness opens with a really cool and somewhat catchy track in Immortal Rites, you then begin to hear more of their brilliant musicianship in class songs as Maze of Torment, Lord of All Fevers which that has some amazing riffs, and I had the pleasure of seeing songs like these at the show in May. I have to say they really do mean business once these songs start, they are engaging to the listener, really make you think about the message they deliver with the songs.

To non death metal fans who are keen to try something different and are considering exploring this genre, give this album a shot, this is an example of a truly classic metal album, was also a very raw production to it too which gives it more character.

I pick my favourite songs off the album. Maze of Torment video is from the same concert I attended so the sound might not be too great.

And my video review for it too just to add. :)

This band and album are not for everyone but it is for those who have the patience to listen to such an extreme form of metal. But for those keen to explore it, go for this one and Blessed. This album is amazing, full of memorable songs.

Riff, you got my azz in gear as I said some time ago that I was willing to try some death metal. I'm D/L Altars Of Madness at that this moment and will give 'er a listen sometime today. Great idea with the video review. Well done.

The only references I have in regards to death metal is Death's Symbolic and Possessed's Seven Churches which I haven't listened to in years. Have it on vinyl and purchased it when it was released.
