Paul McCartney won’t soon forget 2011. He got engaged to longtime girlfriend Nancy Shevell, he’s touring more, he’s reissuing solo albums and now, he’s announced that he’s started to record an album of covers of pop standards from the pre-rock years. Paul told Rolling Stone, “It’s my dad’s style of music” and revealed he already recorded a dozen tracks with an orchestra. As for the songs, McCartney isn’t revealing them, only saying, “They’re songs I admire. I’m trying to steer away from the obvious ones.” No word on when it will be out but the Beatle also said he’s writing material for a “heavier rock” album.

I am pleased he is still feelin' the creative urge and recording/writing old and new material.

No opinion on his engagement...except I hope it works out better than his last disaster.

I have always like Paul, with the Beatles and solo he has proven his quality over the decades beyond any reasonable doubt.

Not too crazy for the standards album but looking forward to the rock album,hope it's along the lines of "Back To The Egg".

^^Maybe he's been inspired by Rod Stewart's never ending "...Songbook" series of recordings.

I'm not much on Rod's "Songbooks" albums, a few good tracks, but mostly average.

However, Eric Clapton's standards album "Clapton" was great IMO, so I'll reserve judgement on Macca in this one

Hopefully both albums are fantastic

^^I don't own any of Rod's Songbook albums Feldy...I just know he's been very successful with that series of releases.

I'd have to look but the last studio album of Rod's I own is "A Night On The Town"...after that I didn't really pay much attention to him.

70's Guy, I don't have "Back to the Egg"...been ages since I listened to that one, I don't really remember much about it to be honest.

Maybe he just wants try out some new styles of music..he does have a perfect voice for this imo..those Beatles love songs and his solo /Wings love songs are true classics..I don't feel this is much of a stretch vocally for Paul

As for his tour..good for him ! As long as he feels the excitement I say YEAH MACCA

Nancy Shevell is a New York business woman who seems much more mature (50's) and secure (her own millions /her family owns a trucking company $$$) then the manipulative Heather Mills

I hope he can find happiness with her, they've dated about 4-5 years so they must have some clue what their in for by now

she's American and I gotta be female here and say Linda Eastman was American ..and that was very successful ..just sayin ..good karma with us yanks

I have no rancor towards Heather Mills, in this case Paul got exactly what he deserved for acting like a fool. His big mistake was marrying her, if he had just lived with her for a while he would have realized what a gigantic mistake it was and escaped with a lot less financial obligations to her.
