Male or Female vocalist (your preference)?

Another thread made me think of this. Do you prefer a male or female singer/lead singer? Personally I'd rather hear a male sing with the exception of I guess Stevie Nicks.

It really depends on the genre for me. If it's heavy metal, or death metal, or anything of that sort, I am more likely to like it with a male vocalist, but that is not including Arch Enemy. Angels Gossow has an incredible growl.

When it comes to any other genre, say pop, or country, or indie, I don't mind if it's a woman or man, as long as they sound good.

I am very much for a female frontperson. Some of my most listened to music is female fronted.


But honestly, my favorite vocalists are male.

I've never had more female fronted bands artists in my collection than I do right now, but they still are in the minority when it comes to rock music.

I like both, but more great male singers have recorded classic albums over the years than women, so men for me.

Much rather spend quality time After the concert with the ladies though...

I love the human voice... period. Now I'm not saying I love just any voice but a good singer is a good singer, male or female!

I don't mind women singing in a prog rock band. I hate the female vocals in metal - Nightwish, Arch Enemy etc.
I prefer male vocals.

Overall I prefer men singing, although there are some great female vocalists out there, Amy Lee and Sarah McLachlan coming to mind. That being said, Ann Wilson is the huge exception, she could sing the phone book and it would sound perfect. So for me, AW, then give the guys the mic.

I can relate more to a male point of view. But I do enjoy the occasional Heart,Grace Slick,Joan Jett,Lita Ford etc....

I completely agree with the first half of this quote as I've always preferred male vocals but (and I know she is loved by many on this board) I just can't listen to Stevie Nicks. Her voice puts my teeth on edge!
