Three days after Lynyrd Skynyrd canceled a concert when guitarist Gary Rossington started having chest pains, the band has had to leave the road for a few more weeks. The band put out a statement that says that he needed heart surgery.

“The Lynyrd Skynyrd band is canceling or rescheduling the next 2 weeks of touring, while Gary Rossington recovers at home from heart surgery to repair blockage in his arteries,” the group announced on its Facebook page. “Currently, the band hopes to resume touring on August 4 in Woodlands, TX. The band has rescheduled Boston, MA at Blue Hills Bank Pavilion to September 23 and moved Big Flats, NY at Tag’s Summer Sound Stage to the following day, September 24. We are continuing to work on other potential re-scheduling, as well. Please stay tuned to the Lynyrd Skynyrd website and social media pages for updates.”

That date on Aug. 4 sees them resume their tour with Peter Frampton, with whom they shared a stage for a handful of nights in June. You can see their entire schedule — both with Frampton and on their own — at the Tour section of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s website.

Rossington, the only original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd still in the band, had a heart attack last October that forced them to remove all the remaining 2015 dates from their itinerary. He also underwent a quintuple bypass in 2003. The surgery he had following last year’s attack added or repaired stents that had been inserted 12 years prior.
