oddly, I had no idea it was a monkees tune, written by Nesmith, as I had heard first the Paul Butterfield Blues Band version....

The tune you're thinking of is "Mary Mary" which, like "Stepping Stone", is on the "More Of The Monkees" album. BTW, I voted for "I Am The Walrus".

I was 9 years old in 1967, so I'll summon my inner child and let him vote. Here he is now holding up his Monkees albums in 1967 (me). One of those albums is "More of the Monkees" that has "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" on it, one of my favorite songs back then.

I was listening to groups like The Beatles and Stones back then, but wasn't quite old enough to fully appreciate them yet. My older brother used to make fun of me for liking The Monkees, but I didn't care. All of my friends liked them too thanks to the TV Show.

I LOVE this photo  :grinthumb

I'm old enough to remember watching Micky Dolenz in the Circus Boy series and I also had the Circus Boy annual. One of these days I'll have to check YouTube to see if they've got any episodes.

Found it and this is the first episode from before the days of CGI.
