John Bonham RIP

Sept 25th 1980, John Bonham, drummer with Led Zeppelin, died aged 32 after a heavy drinking session. ‘Bonzo’ was found dead at guitarists Jimmy Page's house of what was described as asphyxiation, after inhaling his own vomit after excessive vodka consumption, (40 shots in 4 hours). During live sets his drum solo, ‘Moby Dick,’ would often last for half an hour and regularly featured his use of his bare hands.

Was just reading yesterday in Richard Coles book "Stairway To Heaven" about the day his lawyer came and broke the news to him.. He just had a newspaper and said.. One of your musicians made the paper.. He's dead.. Richard right off thought it was Page because of his herion problem.. Nope it was Bonzo.. That was the day Led Zeppelin ceased to be..

I didn't realize it was the 25th that he died but I did listen to 4 Zeppelin albums on my ipod last night when I was working third shift.

Yeah kinda weird, I didn't realize it either. I listened to "In My Time of Dying" last night while driving. Thing is, I usually skip over it, since it's great but a bit of a slog if you're not in the mood. So I decided to bare down and focus in on the drums. It kind of took over the night! ha. At intervals during the song I was like, "wow...wow........WOW.......wow..." I loved how that dude didn't just bang away, but had interesting stuff underlying the big stuff. And that big stuff was BIG.
