No, not this Jem!

This one:

Jem (Griffiths)

Jem's music is Dido with a pulse. That's not to say that you can't chill to it but when she adds some guitar into her electronica it's pure rock. She has the same relaxing voice as Dido but her beats have more of a groove as opposed to swimming in adult contemporary territory. In her music you can hear touches of Middle Eastern flavor and chaotic and others just have an exotic ambience in general!

Her first c.d.:

Finally Woken

is my favorite of the two releases in her catalog. Here are the standouts:

24
(electronica at it's most rockin', love the middle eastern guitar sound, gets me 100% amped)

They
(makes me feel like I'm at Willy Wonkas Chocolate factory :lmao:)

Falling For You (Live)
(more middle eastern vibe, beautiful vocals)

The second album:

Down To Earth

was a departure but added different layers to her already experimental sound. Check these out:

It's Amazing
(The Single)

Aciiid!
(this one's insane)

You Will Make It feat. Vusi Mahlasela
(beautiful song)

Re: Jem

The brother of Jem has a c.d. out in a project called:

Glass Pear (Yestyn Griffiths)

The c.d. is called:

Streets of Love

He shares vocals on a track with Jem herself and it's a cool song! :grinthumb

Glass Pear & Jem-Until the Morning Comes

Unfortunately I see no sight of a new album from Jem herself but it's nice to hear her vocals on something! :grinthumb

You're right on about the "Dido with a Pulse" You could hear it when she sings! Especially in her songs "They" and "It's Amazing" Have to say "You Will Make It" is beautiful to listen to. It's nice to hear something contrasting to her other songs, which are just as great! Probably after "You Will Make It" would have to be "They" as my fav :D

Re: "The Official" Jem Thread

My solid favorite is definitely "24" which is her hardest rocking song and "You Will Make It" a close second. Jem seems to make her best music when she has that Indian vibe laced into her music.
