Must be something in the air today about Ian Hunter, I just saw a brand new vinyl copy of "You're Never Alone With A Schizophrenic" on my rounds. I didn't pick it up today though I was shopping for a fridge but eventually it will go in the library soon.:D

Oh "Schizophrenic" is such a great album, LG. Songs like "Standing In My Light", "The Outsider", "Cleveland Rocks" of course, "Ships", and beyond. :grinthumb I see copies of those pretty regularly when I'm making my rounds as well as Ian's self titled album (somewhat rarely in comparison), "Short Back n' Sides", and "All Of The Good Ones Are Taken".

Great thread Harmony,Alot of great info on Ian,I grew up here on the north coast listening to the old WMMS 101fm (Home of the buzzard)Cleveland Rocks was a staple tune they would play,The new tune ya posted sounds good& im gonna check out the rest of the album,Hopefully ya have good luck with the tickets&enjoy the show:grinthumb

^^^ Not really into the live stuff unless im at the given consert myself.

Thanks, 1340flh. This thread was like.....my opus. :heheh: I still listen to WMMS. They don't play "Cleveland Rocks" anymore but it's still a good station. Like, new rock and metal with some strong emphasis on classic rock. I'm listening to the new album right now and it's really good. Not my favorite but a very good album. :good

So here is the run down of my evening last night: I was freed up to go to the Ian Hunter show about 30 minutes after it started. I hauled my butt over there in hopes of getting in at the last minute. It was sold out so I sat in the conjoined tavern where I could at least listen to it through the speakers and that was nice for about a half hour when an older (probably late 40's or early 50's) man decided to come and talk to me. It wasn't that bad really. His name was Arnold and he bought me a screwdriver (my drink of choice and vodka mixed with orange juice) and after talking for probably an additional half hour he asked for my number and I told him that I knew where this was headed and I enjoyed the conversation but I wasn't into men so that wasn't really going to work for me. It was awkward for a moment then he resumed chatting through a joke about me never having to worry about getting pregnant. hehe
After a bit he went to the bathroom and I went back to the ticket table to see if I could get in. At first it was a no but after another few minutes the guy decided to let me in anyway since the show had been going for over hour already at this point. I got there in time for "Wash Us Away" and "Sweet Jane" as a part of the original set, "Do You Remember (The Saturday Gigs)" and "All The Young Dudes" for the first encore and then of course "Cleveland Rocks" as the second encore and the final song of the concert.

It was amazing!

There was SOOOO much energy I can't even begin to explain it. If any of you have the means to see Ian Hunter live I ABSOLUTELY recommend it. On my way out another older guy (probably 40 something) who's name I never got started chatting with me. He offered to buy me Ian's new CD and a drink. I accepted his offer for the drink but bought the CD myself. We chatted for a while and that was alright. Eventually I decided it was my time to go since I DO have to work today (and have some AWESOME chairs that I need to pick up).
As I exited the venue I notice Ian's lead guitarist, Mark Bosch, outside finishing up a cigarette or something. He said hi and asked what I was up to. I told him that I planned to attempt to drive home after men buying me drinks all night. He told me to be careful not to get a DUI and I said that I was more than together enough for it to not be an issue. When we turned to walk away from each other I turned back and asked if I could get a hug just 'cause. He said sure and then asked me if I was pre-op. That made me laugh and say "Oh drat, you caught me. What gave me away, was it my height?" and he said it was my voice. To be fair I was yelling pretty hardcore (and crying during "Do You Remember". So pretty....) so that made it drop down more than normal since it was strained so I COMPLETELY understand. He then told me to keep up with what I was doing because I was stunning. We hugged again and he asked for a quick kiss, which I had no problem with (being nice to me is the strongest aphrodisiac in a way). It was very light and pleasant and nothing sexual about I don't think and we parted ways. I drove home so contently and am still feeling outstanding about the evening. Some patience, hard work, and it probably does hurt to be tall and model-y and I got my butt into the sold out show. I'm so happy about it all. :grinthumb

^^Sounds like you had a great night all round Cosmic.

I have Schizophrenic on CD but you know how I feel about old albums on vinyl Cosmic, I am glad it's available brand new and not any more expensive than CD's when they were coming out.

It really was. I wish I could have gotten to see more of the show but it turned out great all the same. :)

Yes, I know. You have much higher standards than I with that sort of thing. I mean, I can't listen to a bad sounding record but I don't need it to be perfect like you. :p

^^I don't mind buying good quality used records, I've only been disappointed a few times so far, but certain "Classic" recordings that are available in audiophile format I will spend the extra cash without hesitation. I am almost finished collecting the essentials now, and it's been a lot of fun.;)

Oh they're both great. Mott put out some really underrated album. I've even been developing a big soft spot for their earlier record, which I always thought were a bit dry but are growing on me more because they're more aggressive. :)

Leaving aside Ian Hunter (the only MAN in this band) the rest of this 1970s band were a bunch of butt ugly transvetite's especially the bass player in his 9'' inch knee length platform boots although Buffing was a sweet looking little thing i must admit.

Although I grew up during the 'glam' years ("All The Young Dudes" was the first album that I bought as a teenager) I'm not a big fan of "The Hoople" and fell back quickly into the earlier albums. I remember picking up both "Mott The Hoople" and "Brain Capers" on vinyl (the latter complete with mask) on a visit to London in the mid 70s. Along with "Mott" they remain my favourite of the MTH albums. That said, there's not really a duff one amongst them.

I have to also confess a love of both of the Mott albums, "Drive On" and (particularly) "Shouting And Pointing". I loved Nigel Benjamin's vocals.

Unfortunately, I never got around to buying any British Lions output, apart from the initial single, which didn't set my world alight.
