Hellos (New Music from the Past)

Hey guys: I'm a singer/songwriter. Mainly writing modern metal/pop style but i have an appreciation for all music old/new. A great song is a great song and i'm searching for inspiration. Would appreciate any great poppy/melodic songs from bands/artists that are perhaps a little more under the radar and weren't megastars in the 70's/80s with a unique vibe. What are some of your faves? I think the first music i heard/remember is either Elton John or Boston so both of them resonate with me. Thanks!
