I adore Canadians.

They shop a lot in my hometown - usually they come from Winnipeg and surrounding areas in Manitoba, and they're so polite. Their children are brilliant and lots of them are of Native American heritage (but oddly they seem more passionate about their heritage, so you can see they wear the native jewelry and stuff). They tend to be price hawks when they're shopping (which can get really annoying) but they're often nicer and a lot more patient than Americans.

Especially the little old ladies! They're so adorable.

The best part about the tourists is that they don't have weird accents or anything (like they probably do in Ontario, being so close to Wisconsin, with the nasally Fran Drescher kind of accents). I realize I have a really strong northern accent but still I don't see what people are always talking about when they make fun of the stereotypical Canadian accent because, honestly, I've never heard anyone say "aboot" or "doncha know". And 80% of the people I see on a daily basis are Canadian.

Canadian tourists are awesome.

^^Nice to know you like some Canadians Lady.:D

As far as our "accent", I know for a fact my relatives in Ontario speak more like mid-western Americans than we do out west, we have a different accent which is not nearly as noticeable except for a few words.

I will toast your good health later tonight Lady.:hab:

Happy Canada day. I've visited Canada twice in my life so far, and would love to go back. It's a great place.

Eh?

Thanks for the love everyone. I have spent more than a little time in Las Vegas, a bit in Arizona and noticed only a slight accentual difference between us. Minnesota, nothing. Montana, well that's different.

Happy Canuck day to all!

Honestly it's really easy to identify Canadians in America. Their children are well-educated and speak with absolute grace; they say "please" and "thank you" more often, have a hell of a time operating pumps at petrol stations (I don't understand why), and are more likely to compliment people on the smallest of things.

But the most striking thing is the fact that their children often have better grammar than 90% of Americans. I've seen 5 year olds who could run circles around people like me (naturally hyperlexic) with their impressive grasp on puns, wordplay, and general vocabulary. Why aren't American children like this? I don't know. I just don't know.

Canada deserves a medal.

As far as accents go, my boyfriend says I apparently have one (I guess I stress my vowels a little more than most people) but he loves it. I don't hear it. Even if I try to pay attention.

^^I've met a lot of nice Americans when I traveled from Washington State to California, I think they get a bad rap a lot of the time.

I laughed about you saying we have trouble with the gas pumps...:lmao: I've never had any trouble with them here or in the States.

I have known alot of Canadians myself ( my next door neighbor is one, construction workers I worked with etc ) and to be honest never knew they weren't Americans unless they just came from Canadian and kept saying " Good morning AAHH " or something that ended in AAHHH . :heheh:

Happy Canada Day Aaahhhh :D

Oh for sure. I don't get the stereotype.at all. Sure there are jerks there, but I can show you a million in Canada too. Everyone I know that tries to bash them has never even been to the US, and it pisses me off to no end. Think the USA has redneck hicks? Ever been to Ft McMurray Alberta? You want to see rednecks...

Our two countries are not very different anymore..we watch the same movies, drive the same cars, listen to the same music, yada yada. I tried to take a job working as a fire suppression tech at a company that serviced the big casinos in Vegas, and have no doubt I would have enjoyed it had the economy not erased the offer.

Anyway, enough babbling. Once again Happy Canuck Day everybody, and if you have never been to the US get yer ass down there and that goes for the US to Canada too. :)
