Both these guys are very underrated guitar players IMO, but they never seem to make any of the "Best Guitarist" polls or lists, and they're both excellent Axe slingers if you ask me. Anyway this question is about Guitar skills, who's the better guitarist of the two, not whose body of work you like better or whose political views you agree or disagree with, just guitar playing who's the best?

For power chords Ted easily,,,but all around I have to give Peter Frampton the nod. He steps it up quite a bit live as well compared to his studio recordings.

When I saw Ted play ages ago it was just after Derek St. Holmes left the band, so I was rather disappointed.

Re: Frampton or Nugent

I don't care for Nugent all that much.

I remember being excited to get one of his early 2000's albums Craveman or Crave, whatever the hell it was called, in the mail for free from the label he was on the time. Spitfire or Eagle Rock it was.

While screening it for airplay, I was underwhelmed by the whole thing and though the album was juvenile, more like something Jackyl would have recorded. Not what I was hoping for from a veteran artist.

Overall, the album wasn't bad by any stretch. It sounded good but I was expecting a little more out of someone with the pedigree of Nugent and it turned me off of him a little. Obviously one record is such a small sample of his work, but it gave me an idea of what I'd find if I went into Ted's back catalog.

What does all of this mean?

I picked Frampton.

I liked Frampton in Humble Pie, his Comes Alive album is one of the best live albums to date, but as a showman, frontman, Nugent ( I have seen twice in the late "70's", and early "80's" ) is just outrageous guitarist and ball of fire to watch!!

Re: Frampton or Nugent

I guess Framton, but I saw the Nuge of few times, and he flat out kicked ass on that fat ass hollow body Gibson (I hate when he plays a Les Paul). And as Clasikrokor said, The Nuge is a GREAT frontman--he is so funny. He's right there with David Lee Roth as one of the best front men ever.

Based on his live performance, I vote for Nugent.
