Re: Harkat's Official Dragonforce Guide for Musical Wet Dreams!!

I do listen to metal, just black metal and death metal these days. I think I have listened to every sub-genre of metal over the years and most of it got a bit boring for me. The only sub-genres that have stayed fresh and held my interest (in my opinion, again) are black metal and death metal.

As you say, it's all about personal taste.

^^You won't catch me in that section very often, I much prefer power metal even at it's cheesiest to any of the death/black/doom varieties, I would rather chew my own arm off than listen to them for long.:heheh:

As Dual said, different strokes for different folks.:grinthumb

Re: Harkat's Official Dragonforce Guide for Musical Wet Dreams!!

Personally, I think the way about this all is to take music as you would art ( of which music is ) and just sit down and enjoy the music for what it is.

I thoroughly enjoy Dragonforce's strong melodies, their technicality, speed, the instruments, the lyrics, their general upbeat nature and their generally clean vocals.
They have the most variety on their first and fourth album, whilst the second and third are more rigid and feel almost identical. They should have made just one massively big album instead :heheh:

But like I said earlier, I would love to see Dragonforce branch out a bit. Preferably into a more prog area while maintaining their current style of music so they could really start playing around with sounds, ect

GREAT THREAD!!!!!

@ Dual: I can see some of your points in regards to Dragonforce but I don't agree with the "same old " argument. Bands like Kamelot for example or Nightwish and Within Temptation have really great lyrics as well as music.

@ LG and Harkat: I too have all of their studio albums and I know they get a hard time from alot of metal purists...and I like to think I am one...but when I put on one of their discs...I have to say that it doesn't suck. I also agree with LG that I spin them when I want to have a bit of fun.

They have GREAT ballads too...Nice thread Harkat!! Can't wait to see the next entry.

Wait, whaat?
Whats this about metal purists??
:heheh:

Thanks MP
They do have great ballads!

I think that the reason these guys are listened to, as you put it, 'for fun' is because of their relaxed and upbeat attitude, and it shows in their stuff.

I'm never embarrassed to say if I like something and though they or any band may not be for everyone, I like them. :grinthumb

Their first two albums are very good examples of the genre. Very melodic.
After that, they have started to dwindle a bit, I think.
